22LR vs 22Mag

Welcome back!

This video I'm going to try a couple different things with a couple different guns.

The first test will be 22LR vs 22Mag rounds out of a Heritage Rough Rider revolver. This revolver is chambered for either round and has interchangeable cylinders. So we'll be able to test both rounds out of the same gun.

The second test will be to see if there's any penetration difference in shooting 22LR out of a rifle barrel vs a pistol barrel.

The first gun I'll be demo'ing is the Heritage Rough Rider revolver. This little gun is awesome. It's comfortable, it's rugged, it's a perfect beginner 6 gun for a new shooter. And since it comes in 22LR and 22Mag, it's a perfect plinking pistol or small varmint gun. You can certainly use 22Mag as a personal defense gun as well.

The next gun, will be the Winchester Model 62A pump action 22 rifle. Based on serial number, it looks like this rifle was made in 1949. This is a pretty neat little rifle, and from what I've read, it sold for around $17.95 back in the day. What a bargain! This rifle will accept 22 Short, 22 Long, and 22 Long Rifle, it holds 14 rounds of 22LR in the tubular mag under the barrel. I really like this rifle, it's got that classic wood stock feel, the pump has some pretty aggressive grooves cut in so it makes it easy to rack rounds quickly even with gloves on. This is a great feature for small varmint hunting to get your shots off quick. This gun is really comfortable to hold and seems like it would be a good plinking gun too.

The ammo I'll be using for the 22LR is American Eagle High Velocity 38gr copper plated hollow point.
- muzzle velocity: 1260psi
- muzzle energy: 134 ft-lbs

And for the 22Mag, I'll be using CCI Maxi-Mag High Velocity 40gr jacketed hollow point.
- muzzle velocity: 1875psi
- muzzle energy: 312 ft-lbs

I'm pretty excited to make this video this week. I think it'll be alot of fun. I've always enjoyed shooting 22s, and this week I'm going to put the two rounds head to head and see how much of a difference there is. I also want to see how much further a 22LR round will travel from a rifle barrel than from a pistol barrel.

Hope to see you on the range! Please be sure to like, share, and subscribe on YouTube and check out Idaho Rifleman on Facebook and Instagram.

God bless!
